What You’ll Do:
Execute job responsibilities autonomously while adhering to established departmental and hospital protocols, including telemetry monitoring and patient care procedures.
Deliver accurate, reliable, and comprehensive patient assessments through detailed history-taking and physical examinations in our ICU and acute care medical units.
Diagnose and treat veterans with precision and compassion, ensuring the highest standard of care.
Perform interview, evaluations, and chart reviews as needed to provide well-rounded care.
Ensure the timely documentation of assessments and care plans to support seamless daytime transitions.
Ensure effective communication with the healthcare team to promptly address patient needs.
Timely and suitable requests for consultations and technical procedures to be conducted by other physicians and qualified consultants or technicians.
Utilize diagnostic tools with judicious efficiency, focusing on what’s best for our veterans.
Employ effective and judicious use of diagnostic exams, making every test and every decision count.
Execute job responsibilities autonomously while adhering to established departmental and hospital protocols, including telemetry monitoring and patient care procedures.
Work Schedule: Primary shift hours are from 7:00 PM to 7:00 AM. Additional shift options are available as needed, including shorter and longer durations. Other available shifts include 7:00 AM to 7:00 AM (24 hours) and 5:00 PM to 8:00 AM (15 hours).
Practice Environment: The primary responsibilities include providing care for the ICU and Inpatient Medicine Wards. This may involve conducting consultations and admission assessments in the Emergency Department, providing cross-coverage for designated inpatient wards, and responding to CODE Blue and Rapid Response Team (RRT) activations within the facility. While ICU coverage is not always required, preference will be given to applicants who possess or are willing to acquire ICU skills, including procedures and Non-OR Airway Management (NORAM) certification.
Qualifications:
Must be a U.S. Citizen.
D. or D.O. (Schools of Medicine Accredited by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education or Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation of the American Osteopathic Association). Foreign medical graduates must be verified by the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG).
Must possess a current, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine in a state territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
Completed Residency Training.
Preferred Experience: Board certification or eligibility is desirable. Candidates should have a minimum of two years of relevant clinical experience. Candidates with a background in Internal Medicine, combined with experience in Emergency Medicine, are also considered. Prior experience as a hospitalist is preferred.
Competitive Starting Annual Salary: $270,000-$300,000. Additionally, employees may be eligible to receive up to $15,000 in performance-based pay annually. Furthermore, employees can qualify for Proficiency Awards, which are available in addition to Pay for Performance incentives. Regular salary reviews will occur every two years, and all employees will receive cost-of-living adjustments annually.
Continuing Education: As a VA physician, you can earn CME credits at no cost. You can receive $1,000 or more annually and five days of paid absences to attend CME courses (conditions apply).
Paid Time Off: You will receive 208 hours or approximately 26 days of annual leave a year. Unlimited accumulation of paid sick time and 11 paid federal holidays will begin accruing upon entry.
Liability Protection: VA providers are protected by the federal government in instances of alleged malpractice or negligence resulting from the performance of their duties in or for the Veterans Health Administration, at no cost. VA providers receive tail protection for the time they practice in VA.

Health Savings Accounts (HAS): A High-Deductible Health Plan (HDHP) with a Health Savings Account (HSA) or a Health Reimbursement Arrangement (HRA) provides traditional medical coverage and a triple-tax-advantaged way to help you build savings for future medical expenses while providing you greater flexibility and discretion over how you use your health care benefits.
Retirement: Your basic annuity is computed based on your length of service and “high-3” average salary and becomes vested in the Federal Employee Retirement System, Basic/Defined Benefit pension after only 5 years of creditable civilian service.
Thrift Savings Plan (401K): A Federal 401k Equivalent with 5 % agency match. Allowing you to contribute up to $23,500 annual elective deferral to your account. Become vested after only 3 years of creditable civilian service.
