Job Summary:

Enterprise Analytics is focused on helping the Vanderbilt University Medical Center (VUMC) enterprise solve its most complex problems. We recruit team members with strong analytical and communication skills and diligently invest in their growth, learning, and development.
We partner with VUMC leadership to help answer their most pressing questions. We create replicable and reliable analyses, using up-to-date tools and methods and analytics best practices, to help define the "source of truth" for metrics in collaboration with teams across VUMC We approach each project with the end in mind, work with business partners to thoughtfully frame the problem, agree on ideal outcomes, and use the data to provide actionable, high-quality, meaningful information.
JOB SUMMARY
Working under occasional guidance in the Department of Enterprise Analytics, the Enterprise Data & Analytics Consultant (EDAC) is responsible for all aspects of analytics to meet the needs of our partners. The EDAC provides a single point of contact for our partners in defining scope and objectives and follows the analytics problem-solving methodology. The EDAC develops work plans to ensure analytics are completed accurately and on time and gathers and integrates appropriate data, conducts analyses, chooses appropriate output/visualization, and communicates findings effectively. The EDAC follows data stewardship and data governance practices to ensure all data assets are of the highest quality and maintains appropriate documentation.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
As a member of the Enterprise Analytics team, the EDAC:
defines the appropriate problem, identifies the data needed to solve the problem, gathers and transforms the data into the appropriate form
develops high quality analyses and visualizations and communicates the results and recommendations clearly and competently to our partners
ensures timely completion of all analytics projects and builds trusting relationships with partners and stakeholders
maintains appropriate documentation (e.g., processes, analytics design, measure definitions, data integration)
follows best practices of data stewardship/data governance including managing metadata and consistently performing quality assurance to ensure accuracy throughout the process
follows best practice guidelines set by Enterprise Analytics for each of the 6 technical capabilities

TECHNICAL CAPABILITIES
Below are the expectations of an ideal / fully functioning EDAC. We understand that many new EDACs may not initially possess all these skills and may need additional training in certain areas, especially technical areas.
Stakeholder Engagement (Novice): Builds trusting relationships with stakeholders. Understands all aspects of our partner's business including operational workflows, performance measures, and working relationships. Proactively keeps partners informed of progress on projects. Takes leadership role on analytics projects. Good team player and shows initiative.
Data Acquisition (Novice): Successfully determines data needs based on the problem being solved and identifies appropriate source systems. Writes code that is effective, efficient, and readable with appropriate comments for others to be able to follow. Transforms and structures data accurately. Applies quality assurance (QA) practices and methods. Continues to learn and innovate with new tools and methods, and shares knowledge back with the team.
Data Analytics (Intermediate): Accurately analyzes data to effectively answer our partners' questions. Adopts new tools, and methods, and uses creativity to produce the desired output. Takes full ownership of the quality of analysis.
Data Stewardship and Governance (Intermediate): Understands data stewardship and governance concepts and implements current practices. Understands downstream impacts of changes to data sources, develops and maintains complete metadata for all data assets, tables, and fields. Establishes and maintains data sources of truth and key performance indicators (KPIs). Works with analytics consumers to improve ability to understand KPIs and improve the use and quality of data at the organization.
Communication (Novice): Communicates findings and recommendations in a concise, logical, and easy-to-follow manner. Engages the audience, makes effective use of questions, and practices active listening techniques. Presents written information using a professional writing style and maintains a good balance between detail and synthesis. Adapts communication and presentation delivery to the audience. Leads effective meetings by ensuring appropriate communication before, during, and after all meetings. Selects the right visualization based on the audience and type of question asked and tells stories with data in compelling ways.
Planning (Intermediate): Effectively manages multiple projects concurrently and collaborates with other teams as needed. Creates project plans, tracks progress against plan, actively communicates any potential issues or changes, and documents effectively. Proactively identifies barriers and risks for projects and works to mitigate them. Adapts well with changing requirements and responds well to feedback provided from leaders, partners, and peers.
