What will you be doing:
The Associate Director, Social Work is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in the state of California and works with the Executive Director of Inpatient Care Management to direct and oversee the day-to-day functions of social work and discharge planning services across Cedars Sinai licensed inpatient and outpatient areas. Social work services include, but are not limited to, direct services, advocacy, counseling, service coordination, crisis intervention, and discharge planning as they relate to healthcare and discharge planning needs of the patient and family. Develops, implements and maintains a comprehensive and fiscally sound social work program and orchestrates cohesive patient care practices which address the psychosocial needs of the patients from admission through discharge and across the continuum of care. Ensures social work coverage after hours, weekends, and holidays. Aligns departmental operations with the goals, objectives, and key initiatives of the organization's strategic plan. Demonstrates principled leadership that supports the mission, vision, and values of the organization. Maintains working knowledge of all applicable state and federal regulations, organizational policies, and national standards of practice. Mentors and coaches staff in transforming culture, processes, and practice that follows the patient-centered care model that meets the demands of cutting-edge health care delivery. Contributes to a work environment of caring and cooperation among a culturally diverse workforce and patient population.
Directs and oversees the day-to-day functions of social work and discharge planning services across CS licensed inpatient and outpatient areas under the scope of Inpatient Care Management Leadership in conjunction with social work leadership for Social work services which include, but are not limited to, direct services, advocacy, counseling, service coordination, crisis intervention, and discharge planning as they relate to healthcare and discharge planning needs of the patient and family. Provides for the delivery of hospital-wide coverage after hours, weekends, and holidays.
Develops, implements, and maintains a comprehensive and fiscally sound patient-centered social work and discharge planning program and orchestrates cohesive patient care practices which address the needs of the patients from admission through discharge and across the continuum of care.
Develops and maintains a quality budget according to the goals and objectives of Cedars-Sinai which include but not limited to; meeting all established time frames established for budget completion; effectively forecasting annual budget needs; minimal necessity for revisions due to inaccuracies or incomplete data; collaborate with medical staff/Administration to find opportunities to reduce cost or enhance revenues; implements appropriate cost savings measures for the department.
Develops, implement, and maintain an effective productivity measurement tool for the department. Demonstrates ability to use time effectively and proportionately so that responsibilities are completed within designated time frame(s) as evidenced by: prioritizing tasks/projects effectively; initiating changes as required, or as necessary for the improvement of office facilities and staff productivity; exercising good judgment, creativity in solving unusual problems, and flexibility to adapt to changes; managing additional assignments and multiple tasks effectively and efficiently; demonstrating personal attributes and behaviors which contribute to the smooth operation of the office.
Establishes and maintains effective practices that provide for optimal quality and outcomes for patients/customers. Ensures compliance with regulatory agencies (JCAHO, CMS, Title 22, etc.). Foster continuous learning and improvement in all aspects of service including financial, operational, clinical, academic, customer service and innovation. Demonstrates an understanding of and promotes adherence to the elements of the Compliance Plan as demonstrated by: Exhibiting behavior consistent with the Compliance Plan and Code of Conduct, encouraging his/her staff to prevent, detect and resolve violations of the compliance plan, CS policy and federal and state laws, detecting and reporting non-compliance with the compliance plan, CS policy and federal and state laws, and ensuring all employees under his/her supervision complete required compliance training.
Maintains positive physician, administrative, and staff relationships as observed from comments, informal observation of problem-solving, and feedback. Partners with the executive director and other associate directors, medical director, and physician and nursing leadership to develop and implement departmental and organization policies and procedures that are parallel with best practices for all aspects of care related to social work, continuum of care, and population served.
Collaborates with entities outside of CS such as state agencies, medical networks, insurance companies, post-acute care providers and others in the community that may have an impact in the care of the patient. Serves as a liaison for the Executive Director with said agencies in relation to social work emergent strategies impact our patients in the community.
Responsible for setting strategic initiatives for social work department, to complement with CS strategic goals and completes all initiatives timely and effectively. Works with executive director and dyad partner of care management to plan and strategize for department initiatives, short and long team goals and key performance indicators.
Set goals for employee engagement and works with social work leadership on plan to achieve standards to meet goals based on employee engagement scores and feedback.
Monitors and evaluates social work services through periodic review of documented psychosocial assessments performed by social work staff. Ensures assessments are individualized, comprehensive, based on established risk criteria, include living arrangements and household environment, family structure and the patient?s role within the family, financial resources and financial limitations that would be barriers to services for a successful discharge, cultural values and beliefs, including views on illness, disability and death, and completed within designated timeframes.
Coaches and mentors staff to ensure each patient and family/caregiver interaction is approached from a perspective of cultural respect and awareness, e.g., patient interviews are conducted utilizing culturally sensitive methodology; history, traditions, values, and family systems of patient groups are understood as they relate to the healthcare and decision-making; ethnic, cultural, spiritual, and religious factors that may have an impact on healthcare choices and adherence to regimens of care are taken into consideration.
Demonstrates principled and adept leadership that builds a highly motivated and high-performance team consisting of diverse healthcare disciplines that work well together and excel in cooperation. Motivates and influences others by using techniques that appeal to reason, values, and emotions to generate enthusiasm for work, commitment to task, objectives, and compliance with requests. Designs, implements, and maintains social work orientation and on-going education of new and existing staff to ensure staff is competent to perform duties. Embraces new staff hires and facilitates a smooth transition into the department workforce and practice setting.
Qualifications
Experience Requirements:
Five (5) plus years of clinical experience in an acute care hospital setting, preferably in Academic Medical Center.
Educational/License Requirements:
Master degree in Social Work (MSW).
Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW).
