Job Summary
This position will be variable shift, call responsibilities that are shared with other staff. Call will include after hours, weekends and holiday shifts
The Circulatory Support Specialist 1 will provide autologous blood recovery services. They will maintain compliance standards to ensure necessary quality controls for perioperative blood management. Under a Physician or Certified Clinical Perfusionist's supervision, this role will help provide all equipment needed for assist devices. They will also clean and maintain all perfusion-related equipment before procedures.
Essential Functions of the Role
Provides autologous blood recovery and biologic therapy as needed. May assist Perfusionists in assembling, operating, and monitoring auto-transfusion.
Maintains proficiency in operating and maintaining various autologous blood equipment. This includes autologous cell salvage and producing concentrated platelet-rich plasma.
Assists with set up of cardiopulmonary equipment for surgical procedures under supervision.
Maintain appropriate inventory and equipment. Assist with equipment transport and evaluate new equipment or processes.
Maintains optimal communication, close cooperation, and consultation with Perfusionists and Physicians during delivery of services.
Maintains appropriate, timely, and accurate documentation including pre-procedure checklist and filing of all records.
Responsible for completion of quality assurance protocols as established by the perioperative blood management program.
Implements specific regulatory requirements associated with services provided.
Responsible for following the BSW Health System and affiliates Hospitals policy. This includes care, maintenance, culturing, documentation, and reporting related to perfusion department equipment.
Key Success Factors
Less than 1 year of hospital perfusion services or related manufacturer experience. Demonstrates equivalent proficiencies. Operating room experience preferred.
PBMT (The Perioperative Blood Management Technologist) Certification preferred.
Associates Degree in Health Science preferred.
General computer skills using Word, Excel, Electronic medical documentation, etc.
Knowledge of blood recovery and biologic processing devices.
Knowledge of sterile processing, cleaning, and disinfecting patient care equipment, and appropriate documentation of these tasks.
