Geisinger Neuroscience Institute is seeking an epilepsy trained neurologist to join the Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center team in Wilkes Barre, PA.
Job Duties
This position is based in Wilkes-Barre but supported by a system wide care team consisting of eight fellowship trained epileptologists, four advanced practice providers, two functional neurosurgeons and dedicated nurse navigator support, working together to support our epilepsy practice and level 4 epilepsy center.
Participate in a rotation that includes out-patient clinics, in-patient epilepsy management, long-term video EEG reads (using a shift rotation, not call), and epilepsy surgery.
Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center (GWV) is northeast Pennsylvania's premier tertiary care center with three hundred beds and home to the region's only comprehensive stroke center, a level II trauma center, the Richard and Marion Pearsall Heart Hospital, the Frank M. and Dorothea Henry Cancer Center, and the Tambur Family Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. A new acute care tower with expanded critical care beds in currently under construction.
The neurology clinic is located in a brand-new free-standing medical office building on the GWV campus with local support including neurosurgery, clinical neurophysiology, behavioral neurology, physical therapy, and rehabilitation. There is also a pharmacy, lab, and radiology on-site. Epilepsy patients are co-managed with advanced practitioners, nurses, and pharmacists between physician visits.
The ideal candidate would be a graduate from an accredited epilepsy and/or clinical neurophysiology fellowship program with strong clinical skills, interest in teaching the next generation of providers, and experience with epilepsy surgery.
Medical students from Geisinger Commonwealth School of Medicine rotate through the service, and there is a new neurology residency program based at GWV, so there are many opportunities for teaching. Faculty appointments and more formal roles in education are available for qualified candidates.
