Summary:
Apheresis Role: Responsible for assembly and operation, according to institutional/FDA/AABB protocols, of the apheresis machine and related equipment as indicated for hospital patients and is responsible for assistance in the provision of 24-hour, year-round call coverage whenever stem cell collection, erythrocytaphersis, leukopheresis, or plasmapheresis is required. Also assists the bone marrow transplant team with thawing of stem cells
Dialysis Role: Responsible for assembly and operation of hemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis, including cycler and manual (CAPD, CCPD), according to institutional protocols and in adherence with CMS and ODH guidelines. Responsible for liposorber pheresis and provision of 24-hour, year-round call coverage whenever dialysis treatment is required.

Assesses, plans, implements, evaluates nursing care with a focus on family-centered care for individuals or groups of patients within the assigned scope of practice.
Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care for the physical, psychosocial, educational, and safety needs of the patients served regardless of age and developmental status.

Performs quality improvement and safety duties.
Participates in the development of education for staff members for clinically related issues. May be responsible for precepting new employees and acts as a mentor to the clinical staff.
Performs evidence-based practice duties.
Supports the provider staff and actively promotes collaboration for efficient operation and delivery of quality care, legendary customer service for pediatric patients using a team approach.
Performs systems-based practice duties.
Performs informatics and technology duties.
Staff may be temporarily assigned to an area throughout the Akron Children's Hospital enterprise, based on patient needs requiring similar knowledge and skill.

Demonstrated ability to provide leadership, guidance, and motivation to other staff members with emphasis on working as a collaborative team to provide quality service to patients and their families.
Problem-solving skills and excellent communication skills are required.
Independent judgement and the ability to manage multiple tasks and plan for both short-term and long-term projects are required.
Ability to work well under pressure to prioritize and complete required tasks and responsibilities in a timely and accurate manner.
Experience working with various levels within an organization is required.
Experience in healthcare is preferred.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word) or similar software is required.
Experience working an electronic medical record system (i.e. EPIC) or similar software is preferred.
Education and Experience
Education: Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) is required or must be obtained within 5 years of hire.
Licensed as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the state of Ohio is required.
Certification: Certification as a hemopheresis practitioner through ASCP preferred. CNN (Certified Nephrology Nurse) or CDN (Certified Dialysis Nurse) preferred.
Current certification in Basic Life Support training from the American Heart Association is required.
Years of experience: Minimum of 3 years' experience in pediatric nursing or apheresis/dialysis specific nursing in an adult or pediatric setting. Experience with peripheral and central line IV accession is required.
Years of experience in supervising: Leadership experience is preferred.
