POSITION OVERVIEW: The Infectious Disease physician specializes in prevention and treatment of communicable diseases. This includes but is not limited to inpatient and outpatient treatment, public health, and surveillance measures such as Antimicrobial Stewardship program. The physician position will focus on outpatient care and participate in equal rotation of inpatient hospital call. The physician will also provide patient education and communication with other providers to facilitate ongoing care and provide follow-up care for established patients.

The ID physician will work a minimum of 40 hours a week

Call Schedule:
Physician is expected to participate in the inpatient hospital infectious disease call rotation which is shared equally by all infectious disease physicians in the community with hospital privileges.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES: (May perform additional duties of similar complexity within SCHS as required or assigned)
Clinical Duties:
Telehealth-Assisting with developing and establishing telehealth consultation service
Practice and role model excellence in the Infectious Disease domains of diagnosis, aligning treatment goals to patient values, definitive treatment, supportive care treatment, follow-up care, promote good health and prevent illness.
Educates, counsels, and assists patients and families regarding current health problems, health maintenance activities and preventive behaviors.
Establish goals and priorities following patient and staff needs and organizational objectives. Ensure adherence to St Charles Health System and departmental policies and procedures. The assignment may include pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric age groups.
Assess, diagnose and develop treatment plans; implement treatment, follow-up, and evaluate patients within the scope of practice protocols outlined in Infectious Disease medicine.
Perform patient history and physical exams as needed for procedures or admissions; document findings noting relevant normal and abnormal results.
Evaluate and revise intervention care/treatment plan with patient and family as necessary to achieve improved health
Provide accurate documentation of patient encounters, document orders, directives, procedures, and patient responses in the medical record, and communicate them to other members of the health care team
Maintain accurate, legible, and confidential records promptly.
Provide education for patients and families about preventative care, medical issues, and use of the prescribed medical treatment and equipment
Work as a team member with medical/nursing staff to provide comprehensive care and promote care continuity.
Enhance professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, reading current literature, attending in-services, meetings, and workshops
Be familiar with the SCMG organization structure, communications systems, and billing process, completing billing and coding documentation within the time assigned by SCMG administration.
Keep all licenses and appropriate certifications current and unrestricted.
Maintain active privileges at a St. Charles Health System hospital sufficient to permit the performance of job duties.
Increase understanding and collaboration throughout the medical community regarding primary care and internal medicine care and services.
Participate in SCMG physicians' meetings and assist in policy formation for SCMG and Physician's practice.
Participates in creating a healing environment that supports all aspects of the care environment and the wholeness of everyone, patient, and caregiver.
Participates in creating intentional relationships and puts a high level of focus on attitudes and behaviors that enhance the care experience.
Provide a therapeutic presence in service to others by purposefully responding to the needs of patients/customers in a caring way. This includes introducing oneself and stating your purpose,asking the patient their preferred name, spending time with the patient to determine their care goals, active listening, and using skillful communications (appropriate touch, eye contact, etc.).
Provides and maintains a safe environment for caregivers, patients, and guests
Conducts all activities with the highest standards of professionalism and confidentiality. Complies with all applicable laws, regulations, policies, and procedures, supporting the health system's corporate integrity efforts by acting ethically and appropriately, reporting known or suspected violations of applicable rules, and cooperating fully with all health system investigations and proceedings.
Provides ongoing physician leadership, education, and mentoring to clinical support staff, including.
Interpret and report on diagnostic tests promptly after the diagnostic procedure is completed for both inpatient and outpatient procedures. Not to exceed 72 hours for Urgent and seven days for Routine procedures.
Administrative and Stewardship Expectations:
Documents within the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) and completes other necessary documents. Document all patient care in the proper form and in a timely manner in compliance with hospital policies and regulatory agencies. Be familiar with the SCMG organization structure, communications systems and billing process, completing billing and coding documentation within time assigned by SCMG administration.
Expectation of meeting with infection control and division committees.

EDUCATION
Required:
Graduation from an accredited medical school.
Successful completion of an accredited residency program
Successful completion of an accredited fellowship program in Infectious Disease
LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION/REGISTRATION
Required:
Oregon license as MD/DO
Board certified/Boardeligible in Infectious Disease. Demonstrated experience in infection prevention, antibiotic stewardship programs, and in clinical infectious diseases.
Valid drivers license and the ability to meet SCHS driving requirements.
Maintain unrestricted DEA number.
Maintain unrestricted ability to participate in Medicare / Medicaid, or other federal or state governmental health care programs.
EXPERIENCE
Preferred:
Familiarity with CMS and Joint Commission requirements for an antibiotic stewardship program
Epic EMR software experience
PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT
Must be able to wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) required to perform the job safely.
GENERAL

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Continually (75% or more): Use of clear and audible speaking voice and the ability to hear normal speech level.
