Nemours is looking for a Cast Tech/ Orthopedic Tech.

Primary Function:

The Cast Technician is responsible for all casting procedures and application, adjustment, and removal of soft goods. The position assists providers in fracture care, splinting, basic surgical procedures, and other patient care services as needed. This position is responsible for data collection for patient intake, preparing patients for provider visits, and educating patients regarding follow up care.

Essential Functions:

1. Responsibilities include, but are not limited, to the following:

2. Application, adjustment, and removal of all types of casts, splints, and soft goods. Modify casts as needed in clinic and in the hospital when necessary for the patient benefit.

3. Instructing patient, parents/legal guardians in appropriate use and care of casts and Orthopedic equipment.

4. Responsible for inventory of all casting materials, splints, and soft goods.

5. Assisting orthopedic surgeon/providers in fracture reduction and other Orthopedic procedures as necessary.

6. Assist with rooming of patients

   1. Obtain vital signs.
   2. Capturing and entering patient information and cast supply billing into EMR.
   3. Ensuring appropriate documentation such as x-rays and laboratory reports are available for provider's review.
   4. Rooming patients into exam rooms with preparation for exam and assisting provider with exam.

7. Under the direction of the provider, scheduling diagnostic tests, obtaining pre-authorization, and notifying patients.

8. Preparing, cleaning, and stocking exam rooms.

9. Providing cross coverage to other clinical departments and Delaware Valley satellite offices when necessary.

10. Covering injured areas with specified protective materials such as stockinette bandages, gauze, etc., preparatory to cast application.

11. Scheduling patient appointments.

12. Responsible for suture removal, staple removal, and dressing changes.

13. Serving as technical advisor to the hospital staff in matters pertaining to orthopedic devices and equipment.

14. Other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

High School Diploma required

Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification through the American Heart Association is required (must be completed by the end of the 90-day associate evaluation period).

Registered Orthopedic Technologist through the American Society of Orthopedic Professionals preferred

National Board of Certification for Orthopedic Technologists preferred

A minimum of one year of health care related experience is required
