Pharmacy Technician I/II - Pharmacy Storeroom and Packaging
Working Hours
- Weekdays
- Evening shift (3:00 pm - 11:30 pm)
- possible weekend rotation
Position Summary:
This individual performs compounding, reconstituting, unit dose packaging, ordering, receiving, storage, and distribution duties to support the Department of Pharmacy's role in ensuring safe medication use and appropriate inventory to provide for the medication needs of our patients.
Key Responsibilities:
Specific duties include (but are not limited to):
- Use of unit dose packaging equipment to accurately repackage bulk medications to unit dose form
- Perform regular cleaning, calibration, and maintenance of repackaging equipment
- Compliance with all state and federal regulations, as well as ensuring the highest standards of quality and safety
- Maintain accurate records of repackaged medications, including lot numbers, expiration dates, quantities, and receiving location
- Appropriate utilization of the Omnicell CPM software and associated carousel hardware
- Appropriate execution of supplemental pharmaceutical and supply orders
- Accurately fill and deliver departmental and interdepartmental requisitions
- Independently able to identify appropriate storage conditions for pharmaceuticals, consistent with manufacturer labeling and DUH Policy
- Comply with OSHA, NIOSH, and USP <800> regulations for the safe handling of hazardous medications
- Work well in a collaborative team environment.
- Consistently adhere to first-in first-out methodology for inventory distribution
- Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein
Minimum Qualifications
Education
- Pharmacy Tech I: High school diploma or equivalent and completion of an accredited pharmacy technician-training program. or Acceptance into pharmacy school. or High school diploma or equivalent and one year of pharmacy or health care related experience.
- Pharmacy Tech II: High school diploma or equivalent and completion of an accredited pharmacy technician-training program. or Acceptance into pharmacy school. or High school diploma or equivalent and one year of pharmacy or health care related experience.
Experience
- Pharmacy Tech I: N/A
- Pharmacy Tech II: Minimum of one years related experience.
Degrees, Licensures, Certifications
- Pharmacy Tech I: Must be registered with the North Carolina Board of Pharmacy within the first 180 days.
- Pharmacy Tech II: North Carolina Board of Pharmacy registration is required. Pharmacy Technician certification is required from the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) or The Exam for the Certification of Pharmacy Technicians (ExCPT).
