The Director of Inpatient Pharmacy maintains compliance with all state and federal regulations and is designated as the pharmacist-in- charge, developing, supervising, and coordinating all activities of pharmacy services for the inpatient pharmacy.
Qualifications:
Education:
Bachelor of Science Degree in Pharmacy or PharmD from an accredited College of Pharmacy required.
Master’s degree in related field preferred.
Experience
A minimum of three (3) years’ managerial experience in a Pharmacyrequired.
Previous managerial experience in a hospital preferred.
Licensure/Certification/Registration
Current Pharmacist license in the State of South Carolina.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Responsible for providing sufficient staff coverage for anticipated workload, this includes hiring, termination, training, and scheduling of employees.
Ensures that all pharmacy staff members are currently licensed/certified/registered and have adequate Continuing Education credits.
Ensures the ongoing development and implementation of policies and procedures that guide and support the provision of services, as well as implements and maintains quality control program as appropriate.
Oversees and manages all on-site inspections, assisting inspectors and surveyors in the performance of their duties and provides reports as required in follow-up to surveys, inspections, and audits.
Conducts interviews and evaluates the qualifications and competence of staff, and designs an orientation that integrates employee’s needs, as well as hospital and department requirements.
Ensures the completion of documentation for orientation requirements.
Responsible for maintaining strict control over distribution and usage of controlled substances and ensures appropriate response is made when discrepancies occur.
Responsible for the procurement, inventory control, distribution, storage, and security of all medications in all storage areas throughout the organization.
Ensures that all medications are labeled in accordance with all federal, state, and local laws and regulations.
Ensures expiring drugs are removed from general distribution and refrigeration is sufficient to safely maintain medications.
Provides drug information and ensures that adequate drug references are available in the Pharmacy and Pharmacy staff are always available to answer questions as needed.
Establish policy and procedures for drug recalls and ensure they are followed in a timely manner.
Works collaboratively with the Director of Outpatient Pharmacy to ensure 340B compliance of inpatient operations.
