Exciting Opportunity at MSK! MSK is seeking a proactive, diligent individual to support compliance, risk mitigation, and training activities for institutional research programs. This role ensures our research activities align with security requirements (including NSPM-33), protects sensitive data and intellectual property, and educates partners on standard methodologies related to research security.

Role Overview:

• Risk Assessment: Evaluate research projects, partnerships, and international collaborations for potential security vulnerabilities and compliance risks. Conduct due diligence on collaborators (incl. foreign entities and visitors) and recommend mitigation strategies.
• Policy & Compliance: Interpret and help implement federal, state, and institutional policies on research security, including NSPM-33, and funding agency requirements.
• Training & Awareness: Develop and deliver training sessions, educational materials, and briefings for faculty, staff, and students regarding research security (including foreign influence, data handling, and insider threat awareness).
• Incident Response: Support investigating and resolving research security incidents, including data breaches, suspected intellectual property theft, or research misconduct.
• Collaboration: Work closely with Export Control, IT Security, Sponsored Programs, Legal, and Compliance teams to integrate security into the research lifecycle and maintain robust security controls.
• Monitoring & Reporting: Track regulatory changes, update stakeholders, and prepare regular reports for institutional leadership on the state of research security programs and incident trends.

• Bachelor's degree in Cybersecurity, Research Administration, Public Policy, or a related field (Master's preferred)
• Minimum 2 years' experience in research security, compliance, risk management, or information security within a university, research institute, government, or contractor setting
• Strong understanding of federal regulations relating to research security (e.g., NSPM-33, CUI, export controls)
• Experience conducting risk reviews, policy analysis, and security training programs

• Professional certifications (e.g., CISSP, CISA, GIAC, CRA)
• Understanding of international collaboration vetting and federal disclosure requirements
• Experience supporting grants/contracts review and institutional compliance initiatives
• Excellent communication, interpersonal, and analytical skills
• Proven integrity and respect for confidentiality

• Schedule: Hybrid (mostly remote with occasional onsite visits as needed) 37.5 hours, Monday - Friday
• Location: 430 E. 67th Street, NYC (RRL)
• Reporting to: Director, Research Compliance (IBC/IACUC/ESCRO)
