Under the direction of the Practice Administrator, and in collaboration with the patient care team, the Dietitian will assess and identify the risks, needs and problems related to healthy eating and nutrition for patients and develops plans to meet those needs. The Dietitian works with patients to facilitate behavioral change to prevent disease and restore health for individuals through education as well as counseling patients on the basic rules of good nutrition and healthy eating habits. What does a typical day on the job look like? Assesses nutrition status of patients and, based on this evaluation, plans, implements and evaluates appropriate nutrition care. Develops and implements an individualized plan for nutrition intervention in accordance with the patient's medical program goals and objectives, nutrition prescriptions and self-management training. Assists patients in developing realistic, long-term health goals and goal-directed behaviors. Monitors nutrition progress and reassesses nutrition status of patients with common medical conditions, adjusting the nutrition care plan when needed. Provides nutrition education counseling to patients utilizing techniques that consider the varied needs of age-specific populations as well as cultural, religious, and ethnic concerns. Provides weight counseling and assessment; reviews food records; coordinates and teaches weight loss support group classes. Interprets lab work and provides recommendations in collaboration with the appropriate providers. Maintains a high level of competence while applying current research information and methods into nutrition care of clients. Stays current on diet fads and dangers, mental health assessment, work with psychologist and physician to coordinate care. Identifies opportunities to increase patient, physician and community awareness of outpatient nutrition services. Prepares and delivers community nutrition education programs as assigned. Assists in developing and revising patient education materials, forms and protocols. Participates in planning and developing nutrition-related policies, procedures and goals. Promotes nutrition services to surgical and non-surgical weight loss patients while working as a team to achieve positive nutrition outcomes while supporting and maintaining the Centers of Excellence status. Performs all other duties as assigned. What are the requirements for the job? Bachelor's degree in Nutrition, Dietetics or other related field required; Master's degree preferred Missouri licensed and Registered Dietitian with the American Dietetics Association Basic Life Support through American Heart Association Minimum of 1 year experience working in nutrition or dietetics; 3 years experience preferred Exceptional customer service skills and patient centered mentality Our North Star: Here at NKC Health, we believe in care empowered.
