The Department of Pathology at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) is pleased to announce a new recruitment for an additional academic surgical pathologist and/or cytopathologist. We are inviting applications from qualified candidates at all ranks for a full-time, tenure earning/tenured position through the Department of Pathology, School of Medicine. The candidates should have an M.D. (or M.D., Ph.D.), Board Certification in Anatomic Pathology; board certification in Cytopathology and/or fellowship training in breast/gynecologic or bone/soft tissue pathology will be a plus. The candidate should be eligible for a license to practice medicine in Alabama. The successful candidate beyond starting Assistant Professors should have a national reputation in academic pathology and a track record of a competitive basic, translational, and/or clinically focused research program. Subspecialty expertise will be favorably considered.
The Surgical Pathology Section in the Division of Anatomic Pathology includes approximately 25 faculty members with a diverse skill set and operational expertise encompassing several areas (Gynecologic Pathology, Breast Pathology, Gastrointestinal Pathology, Urologic Pathology, Head and Neck Pathology and Musculoskeletal Pathology to name but a few). Faculty are noted for multidisciplinary, academic productivity and national leadership. Over sixty thousand specimens per year are processed in the section, which maintains an active fellowship program along with other programs in Cytopathology, Dermatopathology, Molecular Genetic Pathology and special fellowships in Organ-based Pathology. A strong diverse research portfolio in translational investigations is conducted by the faculty along with a quality-teaching program.
The Cytopathology Section in the Division of Anatomic Pathology includes five faculty members with expertise in all areas of gynecologic and non-gynecologic cytopathology including an extremely active EUS-FNA service. Approximately 25,000 samples are reported out each year and an active Fellowship program is in place.
A pre-employment background investigation is performed on candidates selected for employment. In addition, physicians and other clinical faculty candidates who will be employed by the University of Alabama Health Services Foundation (UAHSF) or other UAB Medicine entities must successfully complete a pre-employment drug and nicotine screen to be hired.
