Location: Riley Hospital for Children
Schedule: Full-Time, Night Shifts (3-12 hour shifts per week, every other weekend, 6:00 PM - 6:00 AM)

Indiana University Health - Riley Hospital is seeking a Senior MSW to deliver expert assessments, crisis intervention, and discharge planning during night shifts. Position Overview:
The Senior MSW collaborates effectively with healthcare teams to ensure children and families receive safe, timely, and comprehensive care. You will interpret and communicate complex patient and family needs, serve as a role model for caring practices, and assess psychosocial risk factors, including prior functioning, support systems, and reactions to illness.
You will conduct mental health assessments, facilitate complex discharge planning, and serve as a primary liaison in cases involving abuse, neglect, guardianship, foster care, and mental health placements. The role involves leadership in managing dangerous or high-risk situations, utilizing de-escalation techniques to prevent violence and support patients in crisis.
Core Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with medical teams to ensure effective, safe patient care.
- Assess psychosocial, emotional, and financial needs of patients and families.
- Counsel patients and families about emotional, social, and financial impacts of illness/disability.
- Access and mobilize community and family resources to meet patient needs.
- Conduct mental health assessments upon physician referral and provide therapeutic interventions.
- Support complex discharge planning, guardianship, foster care, and adoption processes.
- Serve as a liaison with child and adult protective services, law enforcement, and community agencies.
- Support patients through acute crises, utilizing de-escalation techniques to prevent violence.
- Provide crisis intervention for dangerous or potentially dangerous situations.
- Support end-of-life, guardianship, foster care, and adoption needs as appropriate.
Qualifications & Requirements:
- Education: Master's Degree in Social Work required.
- Licensure: Permanent LSW licensure required; LCSW preferred.
- Certifications: De-escalation certification required within 6 months of hire.
- Experience: 3-5 years preferred in mental health, child and family services, adult protective services, Veteran's Administration, or substance abuse.
- Additional Skills & Knowledge:
- Knowledge of disease impact and human behavior for psychosocial assessments and crisis intervention.
- Familiarity with state and county protective legal mandates.
- Principles of growth and development across the lifespan.
- Strong skills in crisis de-escalation and effective interviewing techniques.
- Ability to develop and maintain strong community and agency relationships.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word.
- Experience working with diverse populations, geographically and financially.
