Play a critical role in managing the Acute Pain Service expansion, as well as work in the Anesthesia Preoperative Clinic, helping to ensure patients are optimized prior to the day of surgery.

Highlights of the Position

Acute Pain Service (ACS)

• Responsible for being the primary point person in the hospital for APS
• Evaluate new consults and round on service patients daily
• Encourage patients during their hospital course, supporting the goals of care of the primary service through the use of best acute pain management practices
• Communicate regularly with other services throughout the hospital such as trauma and surgical services
• Assist anesthesiologists with acute pain procedures
• Round and assist in the management of chronic pain patients in collaboration with the physicians from the Chronic Pain Department
• Evaluate consults and assist in the management of patients admitted with acute flare of chronic pain/cancer pain in collaboration with the physicians from the Chronic Pain Department.
• Collaborate with the interventional pain room to arrange procedures for inpatients with chronic pain if necessary.

Anesthesia Preoperative Clinic

• Chart review and in-person evaluations of patients scheduled for surgery
• Assist in compiling all pertinent information from outside and internal sources
• Refer for specialty evaluation when appropriate
• Counsel patients awaiting surgical procedures
• Collaborate in creating and organizing care plans for complex patients, ensuring a peri-operative plan is in place prior to the day of surgery

Candidate Requirements

• Detail-oriented with excellent organizational and interpersonal skills to help in the evaluation, counseling, and planning for preoperative patients
• Able to work collaboratively with all physician members of the Department in fulfilling position duties.

• Graduate of an accredited Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant program
• Ability to obtain Pennsylvania and New York medical license
