We are seeking a compassionate and knowledgeable Diabetes Educator to work with patients and community members, utilizing the nursing process to develop effective treatment strategies and promote healthy lifestyle choices.

Position Overview:
Using the nursing process, the Diabetes Educator collaborates with patients and community members, applying clinical experience to create tailored treatment plans and provide education on disease management and prevention. Responsibilities include explaining treatments and procedures, conducting health screenings, and educating the community on ways to improve health outcomes and prevent disease. The populations served are defined within the department's scope of service, and the role supports IU Health's mission to improve the health of all Hoosiers through purpose-driven, compassionate care.

Key Responsibilities:
- Educate patients and community members on disease management, health promotion, and prevention strategies.
- Communicates with adult and pediatric patient populations with existing diagnosis and new diagnosis.
- Collaborate with healthcare teams to ensure patient-centered care and education.
- Explain treatment plans, procedures, and health screenings to patients and groups.
- Promote healthy lifestyle choices and disease prevention in diverse populations.

Qualifications & Requirements:
* Education:
- Associate of Nursing (ASN) required.
- Bachelor of Nursing (BSN) preferred.
* Licensure & Certifications:
- Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of Indiana or an active Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) RN license.
- Graduate from a nationally accredited nursing program.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA).
- Other advanced life support certifications may be required per department policies.
- May require specialty certification related to diabetes or community health. *Requested specialty certification within a year of hire.
